Sony Interactive Entertainment has launched Live TV on PS5, a free ad-supported streaming service available to PlayStation 5 users in the United States since August 31, 2026 [1]. The service offers over 100 live channels alongside on-demand content covering news, sports, movies, TV shows, and anime [2, 1, 3, 4].
Developed by Sony Pictures Television, the app features channels such as MovieSphere by Lionsgate, 50 Cent Action, FilmRise Free Movies, Sony One Horror Hits, Cinevault, and anime stations from Crunchyroll including Black Clover [2, 1, 3, 4]. Live TV programming includes popular shows like Community, The Shield, Hell’s Kitchen, The Walking Dead, Forensic Files, Unsolved Mysteries, Deal or No Deal USA, Fear Factor, and Ice Road Truckers from A+E’s HISTORY channel [2, 1, 3, 4].
Sports coverage is provided by FOX Sports, NASCAR, NBC Sports Now, and UFC, with content spanning MMA, football, hockey, motorsports, golf, boxing, and soccer [2, 1, 3, 4]. News and weather channels available include NBC News Now, Fox Weather, and LiveNOW from FOX [2, 1, 3, 4]. The platform also offers creator-focused programs like Hot Ones, Spotify’s The Ringer, Futcrunch, Idle Mode, as well as comedy, action sports, gaming, esports, documentaries, podcasts, and the exclusive eCLUTCH channel [2, 1, 3, 4].
Users access Live TV via the Media tab on the PS5 main interface and must sign in with their PlayStation account to watch [3, 4]. Sony sees the service as a way to keep players engaged on the console and build an ad-supported streaming competitor [1, 3].
Sony had previously operated a paid live TV service called PlayStation Vue but discontinued it in 2020 due to high costs [3]. The new Live TV service is free but ad-supported.
According to Sony, the company “looks forward” to expanding Live TV to Canada and other unspecified regions in the future [1].
