Taiwan's nationwide domestic travel subsidy program began on September 1, 2026, covering 22 counties and cities across the island [1, 2, 3]. The program offers multiple incentives to stimulate local tourism, including weekday accommodation discounts, birthday vouchers, amusement park stay discounts, company travel subsidies, and the Taiwan PASS dual-province transportation ticket scheme [4, 5, 6, 7].
Weekday accommodation subsidies apply Sunday to Thursday (excluding holidays). General areas receive up to NT$2,000 off for two consecutive nights (NT$800 first night, NT$1,200 second night). Outlying islands qualify for up to NT$2,500 off (NT$1,000 first night, NT$1,500 second night) [1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12]. Birthday vouchers worth NT$1,200 each month will be randomly given to 1,000 birthday celebrants from September to December. These vouchers can be combined with accommodation subsidies [1, 2, 5, 6, 8, 12].
The Taiwan PASS dual-province travel card provides two choices: a 50% off transportation ticket or a full-priced ticket plus a NT$1,500 weekday accommodation voucher. Vapor of vouchers can be combined with other subsidies to encourage multi-destination travel [4, 5, 6, 7].
Special promotions run on the Matsu Islands (Lienchiang County). Starting September 1, the “This Time It’s Matsu’s Turn - National Travel Subsidy Matsu Extra Go” event offers integrated benefits for transportation, lodging, local consumption, and exclusive gifts exceeding NT$10,000 in value [1, 2, 3]. Matsu's XinTaiMa ferry offers a “buy one way, get return trip free” deal, with round-trip tickets for parent-child pairs as low as NT$1,680 [1, 2, 3]. Weekday accommodations on Matsu offer up to NT$2,500 off for two nights, valid through November 30, and support cross-island and cross-hotel stays [1, 2, 3].
Visitors paying with Taiwan Pay or Taiwan Mobile Payment App at designated stores get an extra 10% cashback or reward points with no minimum spend, combinable with other subsidies [1, 2, 3]. Each of Matsu’s four townships offers unique add-ons: South Gan provides attraction discounts and gifts; North Gan includes accommodation bonuses and collectible merchandise; Juguang features lodging gifts, stamp collection trails, ecological tours, and a short video contest; Dongyin hosts phased campaigns with photo check-ins and social media tasks [1, 2, 3].
Tourism content for Matsu was upgraded with sustainable “Island Clean Walk” tours linking trails, cultural sites, and industries. Lienchiang County’s Cultural Affairs Bureau plans eight intergenerational arts programs and will offer 40% off tickets in the low season [1, 3]. Deputy Magistrate Chen Guanren said, “Autumn is very suitable for tourism in Matsu. Compared to summer’s peak, the weather is cooler and visitors can slow down and deeply enjoy the unique atmosphere of islands like Qianbi, Dongju, and Dongyin.” He added, “All Matsu townships have fun attractions and different seasonal experiences, and the new offers give travelers a reason to ‘start now’” [2].
More than 2.22 million people had registered nationwide for the weekday accommodation subsidy by launch day [8, 9, 10, 11, 12]. Other counties offer local promotions, such as Hualien’s extended stay subsidy up to NT$7,000, Tainan’s third night free for consecutive stays, and New Taipei’s route check-in rewards [9, 10, 11, 12].
The Taiwan PASS dual-province cards went on sale September 1 at seven designated vendors. Registration for the birthday voucher lottery closes September 8 at 5 p.m., with winners announced September 9 and voucher use starting September 10 [1, 4, 5, 6, 12, 7].
