An armed robber attempted to steal cash from a security van outside a bank in Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Klang, Selangor, between 5:30 and 6 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2026 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. The suspect threatened security guards with an object resembling a revolver or pistol while cash was being transferred into the armored van [1, 3, 4, 5].
Quick action by the guards prevented the theft. One of them locked a bag containing RM82,000 (about US$20,000) inside the van before the suspect could access it, Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said: "One of the security personnel reacted swiftly by placing the bag containing the cash into the van and locking the vehicle, preventing the suspect from getting away with any money" [1, 3, 4, 5].
The suspect then disarmed a security guard and stole a pump-action shotgun before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle [1, 3, 4, 5]. Despite the armed robbery attempt, no injuries have been reported [2].
Police believe the suspect acted alone and are conducting the investigation under Sections 392 and 397 of the Malaysian Penal Code [4, 5]. Following the incident, police launched a manhunt and set up roadblocks around Klang to locate the suspect, with Datuk Shazeli Kahar stating, "We immediately set up roadblocks following the incident around Klang to trace the suspect. These roadblocks will continue at strategic locations until the suspect is taken into custody" [1, 2, 4, 5].
Authorities are also gathering CCTV footage from the bank, nearby premises, and vehicle dashcams to aid the investigation [1, 4, 5].
