Collins Aerospace announced a $63 million investment to expand its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility at Subang Aerotech Park in Malaysia. The facility will grow from 46,000 to 164,000 square feet, making it the largest MRO hub in the region and a key center for advanced component servicing. The expansion targets air management systems for aircraft including Boeing 787, 777, Airbus A330, and A380 models [1, 2, 3].

The company currently employs about 150 people at Subang and expects the workforce to increase by 30 to 50 percent over the next five to ten years due to the expansion [1, 2, 3]. Malaysia was chosen because of Collins Aerospace's 30 years of presence there and the adaptability of local talent to new technologies [1].

The expanded facility will feature advanced technologies such as digital tier boards, eAndon systems, autonomous mobile robots, and real-time location tracking to improve efficiency and reduce turnaround times [3].

Malaysia's Ministry of Transport recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Defence to reskill retired Royal Malaysian Air Force personnel for aerospace jobs at Collins Aerospace, supporting workforce growth and skills development [1, 3].

Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the $63 million expansion is a ‘‘statement of confidence in Malaysia’s infrastructure, regulatory environment, and above all, our people.’’ He added, ‘‘These are exactly the kinds of employment opportunities that Malaysia’s aerospace talent pipeline needs to absorb’’ [3].

Irene Markis, president of Collins Aerospace, said the Asia-Pacific region is ‘‘the fastest-growing aviation segment in the world’’ with 99% of the population yet to take their first flight. She noted the global fleet is expected to grow from 30,000 to over 45,000 aircraft in 20 years, with Asia-Pacific at the center of that growth [1].

Collins Aerospace officially launched the expansion in June 2026. The full transition into the expanded MRO facility is expected to be completed by the end of 2026 [1, 3].
