Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay officially retired from the Royal Malaysia Police on Sunday, July 26, 2026, after serving nearly 35 years in various key law enforcement roles [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]. He was appointed Deputy Inspector-General of Police in June 2023, a position he held until his retirement [1, 2, 3, 4, 6].
During his career, Ayob Khan held several significant posts including Johor Police Chief, Director of the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, and head of the Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter-Terrorism Division [1, 2, 3, 4, 6].
On July 23, just days before retiring, he launched his biographical book titled "From Pendang to Bukit Aman: The Integrity Journey of Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay," which spans 276 pages and is priced at RM150 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]. He stressed that the book was not meant to elevate his name or portray himself as flawless [5].
Reflecting on his career, Ayob Khan said, "Rank will come to an end, positions will change, and the uniform will eventually be hung up. Learn to let go. Everything we have today is not permanent," emphasizing the values of integrity, discipline, and loyalty [3, 4, 5].
After retirement, Ayob Khan joked about possibly opening a mamak restaurant, saying, "You might see me wearing a sarong and a pagoda shirt while making roti canai" [1, 3, 4, 5, 6].
Although several offers for post-retirement roles have come his way, he said, "There have been some offers, but I haven't thought about them yet. InsyaAllah, I will focus on resting first" [1, 3, 4, 5, 6].
He also indicated plans to write another book with more detailed accounts of his high-profile operations, contingent on the declassification of materials [1, 3, 4, 5, 6].
