King Sultan Ibrahim granted an audience to Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Johor BN chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi on July 12, 2026, at Istana Pasir Pelangi. The meeting lasted nearly one hour, reflecting the significance of BN’s recent electoral success [1, 2, 3].
BN secured 48 out of 56 state assembly seats in the Johor state election held on July 11, 2026. UMNO candidates won 36 seats, MCA secured 8, and MIC took 4, collectively dominating the state legislature [1, 3]. Pakatan Harapan contested all seats but managed to win only 8, while Perikatan Nasional, Parti Bersama Malaysia, Muda, Parti Orang Asli Malaysia, Parti Sosialis Malaysia, and independent candidates failed to win any seats [1, 3].
Following the election results and the royal audience, a new Johor Menteri Besar is expected to be sworn in later on July 12, 2026, marking the start of BN’s new state administration [2].
On July 14, King Sultan Ibrahim also met with Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Aman at Istana Negara. The 30-minute audience, held two months after Abdul Halim’s appointment on May 13, involved discussing ongoing efforts at the MACC [4, 5]. On the same day, the King met Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil to receive updates on preparations for the upcoming National Day on August 31 and Malaysia Day on September 16.
