Malaysia’s Ministry of Finance (MOF) on August 5 denied a viral claim that all Malaysians aged 18 and above will receive a one-off RM100 Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) payment for National Day [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6].
The MOF said the poster circulating on social media making this claim was false. It urged the public not to believe or share the misinformation to prevent confusion and misunderstanding [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6].
“The Ministry of Finance wishes to emphasise that no official announcement has been made regarding the Sara payment as claimed in the poster,” the MOF said. It advised the public to always verify information through official Ministry of Finance channels before sharing it [2].
The MOF’s warning came after widespread sharing of an unverified poster claiming that Malaysians aged 18 years and above would receive RM100 under the SARA scheme in conjunction with National Day celebrations. No supporting government source confirmed the alleged payment [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6].
Officials reiterated that no official plans or announcements related to the RM100 SARA payment exist, stressing caution against deceptive materials online. The reminder was part of wider efforts to combat misinformation surrounding government subsidies and welfare payments [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6].
The denial aims to prevent public misunderstanding and ensure accurate communication of government financial aid programs.
