Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim sent an official letter to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto seeking special attention and intervention on Felda’s troubled investment in PT Eagle High Plantations Tbk (EHP) in Indonesia as of August 21, 2026 [1, 2, 3].

Felda faces potential financial losses amounting to RM2.5 billion from past decisions made by previous management regarding the Eagle High investment. The expected recoveries are only around RM200 million, creating a significant financial gap [1, 4, 2, 5, 3]. Anwar warned, "If it is not addressed, we could potentially lose RM2.5 billion and recover only RM200 million" [1].

The dispute over the investment is currently the subject of court proceedings in Indonesia and arbitration in Singapore. Felda has yet to recover the funds as PT Eagle High Plantations contests the matter through Indonesian courts [1, 2, 5, 3]. Felda's subsidiary, FIC Properties Sdn Bhd (FICP), originally acquired a 37% stake in Eagle High from Indonesia’s Rajawali Group in 2016 for about US$505.4 million (approximately RM2.3 billion), including a put option that triggered arbitration [5]. In June 2024, a Singapore International Arbitration Centre tribunal ruled in favor of FICP, ordering Rajawali Group to repurchase Eagle High shares at the agreed price or rate [5].

Anwar emphasized to Felda’s senior management the importance of fully grasping the scale and gravity of these inherited problems. "I want the managers to know about these problems and how heavy the burden becomes when there is mismanagement," he said [5]. He clarified that regional Felda managers from areas such as Pahang and Johor are not responsible for the losses but will all bear the consequences. "What does a Felda manager in Pahang or Johor have to do with it? But we all have to bear the consequences, and that is the problem. So, they need to understand this," he added [2].

To mitigate impacts, the government plans to accelerate welfare projects, including funding repairs for Felda managers’ and settlers’ homes without waiting for the next budget cycle [2, 3].

The latest step involves Anwar’s meeting with Felda’s senior management and his formal request to President Prabowo asking him to look into the issue to prevent further losses [1, 2, 3].
