Malaysia’s Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) will continue empowering the electrical and electronics (E&E) sector to keep the country a vital player in the global technology supply chain [1, 2, 3]. The E&E sector significantly contributes to Malaysia’s position in areas such as high-tech semiconductors, advanced sensors, and telecommunications [1, 2, 3].
Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Sim Tze Tzin highlighted Malaysia’s Northern Region, especially Penang, as a major hub hosting hundreds of world-class technology manufacturers. “This step is important given that Malaysia, especially Penang and the Northern Region, is among the major hubs for the E&E industry, semiconductors, high-tech sensors, and telecommunications. More importantly, the region hosts hundreds of world-class technology manufacturers,” he said [2].
The semiconductor industry plays a strategic role in Malaysia’s economy. The country serves as a key site for global semiconductor assembly, testing, and packaging activities [1, 2, 3]. MITI is also prioritizing export control compliance to ensure the orderly operation of the technology sector and international trade [1, 2, 3].
On August 10, Deputy Minister Sim officiated the 2010 Strategic Trade Act (STA) Customer Day and the Northern Region STA Clinic in Bayan Lepas. The clinic, attended by 86 participants, offers advisory services on product classification, permit applications, licensing, and internal audits to industry players [1, 2, 3].
Malaysia’s strong trade performance in the first half of 2026 gives local companies an opportunity to improve worker welfare. Sim urged companies with good performance to share success with employees through salary increases and bonuses, saying, “Therefore, Sim hopes that companies that achieved good performance can share their success with employees through salary increases and bonuses” [3].
MITI emphasized that close collaboration between government and industry is crucial to maintain Malaysia as a trusted destination for investment and high-impact technology production [1, 2, 3]. The ministry will maintain efforts to support the E&E sector’s role in the global supply chain while ensuring regulatory compliance and workforce well-being.
