Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim directed Felda management to provide a complete report on a proposed hotel sale at a price far below its original purchase cost during the Semarak Kenegaraan Programme at Terendak Camp on August 7, 2026 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].

Anwar refused to approve the sale after discovering the hotel was to be sold for £100 million, down from the purchase price of £160 million, resulting in a potential loss of about £60 million (approximately RM330 million) [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. He said, "Felda is under my watch. Two months ago, the Felda management came and asked me to sign for the sale of this hotel. I said, wait a moment, what kind of business is this? Selling at a price lower than when it was bought. So I did not sign. I said, find out who did this and submit a report" [2].

Felda settlers face ongoing hardships such as insufficient income and inadequate basic facilities including schools and air conditioning. Anwar expressed regret over the proposed loss during his recent visit to settlers, noting they "said they wanted air conditioning, schools to be repaired, and their income is insufficient. But Felda itself is just casually losing money" [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. He emphasized the importance of protecting Malay institutions from poor decisions, stating, "If we don't [do something], no matter how long, our agencies — including Malay agencies that we take pride in and want to defend — this is what will become of them. So we must correct that" [2].

Other officials present at the event included Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Dr Zulkifli Hasan, Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, and Army Chief Gen Tan Sri Azhan Md Othman [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].

Felda management requested approval for the hotel sale around June 2026 but Anwar denied the deal, demanding a full report on the sale process and reason for the large financial loss [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. The Prime Minister's firm stance signals further review and possible action regarding Felda's assets and management.

The full report from Felda management on the proposed sale is now awaited for further government review.
