The Selangor state government will meet workers expected to be affected by the closure of television production operations at Panasonic AVC Networks Kuala Lumpur Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PAVCKM) next week to discuss assistance and alternative employment opportunities [1, 2, 3].

The meeting will be led by V. Papparaidu, chairman of the State Human Resources, Poverty Alleviation, Indigenous & Minority Affairs Committee, along with representatives from the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) [1, 2, 3]. Papparaidu said Perkeso will provide financial protection to retrenched workers through a staged job-seeking allowance paying 80% of salary in the first month, 50% in the second, and 30% thereafter. He called it a "new initiative by Perkeso that greatly assists people, especially Selangor residents who face retrenchment" [2].

Panasonic Malaysia Sdn Bhd announced on August 8 that it will discontinue production of two products, affecting 400 workers by the end of March 2027 [1, 2, 3]. Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said, "Next week, Papparaidu will meet the affected group to explore and offer necessary support, especially as their factory faces potential closure. Early intervention measures, such as providing food baskets, will certainly be carried out, but we will also assist them in finding alternative employment so they can sustain the lives they have built in this state over the years" [2].

The Selangor Mega Jobcare 2026 career fair is currently underway at the Shah Alam Convention Centre, featuring 147 employers offering over 11,000 job vacancies. About 62.2% of positions offer monthly salaries above RM3,000 [1, 2, 3]. This event aims to support workers affected by industrial changes with job opportunities.

Beyond immediate support, the Selangor government remains committed to empowering local entrepreneurs through the Platform Selangor (PLATS) initiative, which has registered over 100,000 entrepreneurs to create an inclusive, sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem. Amirudin highlighted ongoing efforts to "strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem through digitalisation, access to financing, capacity building and strategic networks," enabling local businesses to compete nationally and internationally [4].

The meeting with affected Panasonic workers is scheduled between August 10 and August 14, focusing on discussion of assistance and alternative employment options ahead of the factory’s production closure [1, 2, 3].
