Ten assemblymen were sworn in as members of the Johor State Executive Council on July 18, 2026, at Balai Mengadap, Istana Bukit Serene, before the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail [1, 2, 3]. This followed Barisan Nasional’s (BN) landslide victory in the 16th Johor state election, where they secured 48 out of 56 seats, achieving a two-thirds majority in the legislative assembly [1, 4, 2].
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, who also represents the Machap seat, was sworn in for a second consecutive term on July 11. He retained his seat with a majority of 15,375 votes [1, 4, 2]. Onn Hafiz described the appointments as "not a privilege" but "a great trust and an enormous responsibility," adding that there would be "no honeymoon period" and urged the new Exco members to start working immediately on the Maju Johor 2030 development agenda [5, 6].
The new Exco lineup includes six returning members and four new faces. The newcomers are Md Israk Abdullah (Kukup), P. Pannir Selvam (Perling), Hasrunizah Hassan (Pulai Sebatang), and Dr Muhammad Naqib Md Ghazali (Panti) [1, 7]. Md Israk heads the Agriculture, Agro-Based Industry and Rural Development Committee; Pannir chairs the Unity, Heritage and Culture Committee; Hasrunizah leads Women, Family and Community Development; and Dr Muhammad Naqib oversees Education and Information [7, 6]. Dr Muhammad Naqib said he would strive to fulfill his duties despite this being a new field compared to his previous health sector role [8].
The six retained Exco members continue their portfolios: Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor (Housing and Local Government), Mohd Hairi Mad Shah (Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development), Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid (Islamic Religious Affairs), Ling Tian Soon (Health and Environment), Lee Ting Han (Investment, Trade, Consumer Affairs and Human Resources), and Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh (Public Works, Transport, and Infrastructure) [7, 6]. Four former Exco members—Khairin Nisa Ismail, Datuk Zahari Sarip, Aznan Tamin, and K. Raven Kumar—were omitted from the new lineup [6].
The Johor Regent, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, urged the new council members to serve with dedication, integrity, and sincerity, centering every policy on the interests of the people to benefit the entire state [9, 3]. The council members pledged to accelerate economic transformation and fulfill manifesto promises over the next four years, including the Johor Economic Transformation Plan (JETP) and housing initiatives [8]. The Johor Affordable Housing Scheme aims to complete 30,000 housing units by the end of 2026 [8].
Key Performance Indicators will be tracked quarterly to monitor progress on manifesto pledges under Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz’s leadership. Datuk Mohd Jafni said progress reviews would occur every three months to ensure fulfillment of the stated goals [8].
