Datuk Seri Profesor Dr Noor Inayah Ya’akub, CEO and vice-chancellor of UniMAIWP, was sworn in as a new Malaysian senator on May 25, 2026, alongside reappointed senators Hussin Ismail and Dr RA Lingeshwaran before Senate President Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah in Kuala Lumpur [1, 2].
Hussin Ismail’s senatorial term began earlier, on April 23, 2026, and will run until April 22, 2029. Noor Inayah and Dr Lingeshwaran’s terms start from May 14, 2026, through May 13, 2029. All three senators will serve three-year terms [1, 2].
Hussin and Lingeshwaran were re-elected by the Terengganu and Penang State Legislative Assemblies, respectively, while Noor Inayah is a new appointee [1, 2].
During the oath-taking ceremony, Senate President Awang Bemee extended "heartfelt congratulations and welcome" to all honoured senators sworn in that day [1]. He urged the Senate to be a platform for "mature, prudent and constructive debates in the interest of the people" and stated the public expects Parliament to attend effectively to government policy scrutiny by proposing "practical, balanced and constructive solutions" in a challenging political environment [1].
The Senate is set to hold its second meeting of the fifth session of the 15th Parliament starting July 20, 2026, a 10-day sitting that will provide the senators an opportunity to perform their legislative and oversight duties [1, 2].
