Datuk Razali Idris resigned as Terengganu Bersatu chairman and Marang Bersatu division chief but remains a party member, the resignation effective after mid-August administrative completion[ s1,s2,s3,s9]. Razali submitted his resignation letter to party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on July 16 but has received no confirmation yet. Razali said, "So far, the party headquarters including Muhyiddin have not confirmed or made a decision to accept or reject my resignation" [1]. He added, "I am only resigning as Terengganu Bersatu chairman and Marang Bersatu chief, but I will remain a party member" [2]. Razali had served as Terengganu Bersatu chairman for 10 years[ s2,s9].
Two other senior Bersatu leaders in Terengganu, information chief Mohd Zawawi Ismail and treasurer Mohd Husaimi Hussin, also resigned from their party leadership posts[ s1,s2,s3,s9]. Khazan Che Mat, Bersatu Kuala Nerus chief and deputy speaker of the Terengganu assembly, is expected to follow suit. Khazan commented, "If the head is gone, the tail will follow"[ s2,s9].
The resignations come amid a dispute over Bersatu's membership in Perikatan Nasional (PN). PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said Bersatu's membership was automatically revoked after Bersatu announced plans to form a new political coalition involving IPR, Putra, and Urimai[ s4,s10]. Abdul Hadi cited PN constitution provisions stating any party joining another alliance automatically ceases to be a PN member, claiming Bersatu is "automatically out"[ s4,s10].
Bersatu leaders strongly rejected these claims, stating there is no PN constitutional clause for automatic loss of membership. They criticized PAS for violating the PN constitution and manipulating the coalition for PAS' own interests[ s5,s6,s8,s11]. Bersatu information chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said, "We want decisions by the PN Supreme Council to be made constitutionally through proper meetings, rather than through interference by the Pas president (Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang)"[ s8].
Perak PN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said on August 9 that Bersatu remains a member of PN[ s7,s12]. Sasuri stated, "As of today, Aug 9, Bersatu is still a member of Perikatan Nasional"[ s7]. Bersatu plans to file a report with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) challenging PAS's claims and actions regarding its PN membership[ s8,s11].
The dispute escalated after the PN Supreme Council excluded Bersatu from meetings to discuss Negeri Sembilan election seat allocations, which Bersatu says violated the coalition constitution[ s5,s6]. Some Bersatu MPs have lodged complaints with RoS questioning the legitimacy of party leadership[ s7].
The party awaits a response from Muhyiddin on Razali's resignation letter and the outcome of its RoS report as the internal strife and coalition membership dispute remain unresolved today, August 9, 2026.
