Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) announced a record Q2 2026 net profit of NT$706.6 billion (about US$22 billion), a 77.4% increase from the previous year and the fifth consecutive quarter of record earnings [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]. The company's Q2 revenue rose 36% to approximately NT$1.27 trillion (US$39.4 billion) [2, 7, 3, 5, 6].
Advanced chip technologies at 7 nanometers and below accounted for 77% of wafer revenue. Within that segment, 5nm chips made up 33%, 3nm 30%, 7nm 11%, and 2nm 3% [6]. High-performance computing including AI and datacenter chips contributed 66% of total revenue in Q2. Smartphones accounted for 22%, and internet-connected devices 5% of sales, highlighting the growing dominance of AI-related products [6].
TSMC CEO C.C. Wei said demand related to AI remained "extremely robust" [6]. The company is the main chipmaker for key customers such as Nvidia, Apple and Broadcom and plays a central role in the buildout of global AI infrastructure [2, 7, 3, 6]. Counterpoint Research senior analyst William Li noted that "AI infrastructure investment remains exceptionally strong despite macro uncertainty," with demand for GPUs, ASICs, and advanced packaging exceeding expectations [5]. Omdia analyst Simon Chen described the demand as "structural, backed by massive, tangible capital expenditures from hyperscalers" [5].
TSMC announced an additional US$100 billion investment in its chip factories in Arizona, bringing the total planned US investment to US$265 billion [4, 6]. The company raised its 2026 capital expenditure forecast by up to 14%, from US$52-56 billion to US$60-64 billion, signaling confidence in continued strong AI-driven demand [4].
The company forecast Q3 2026 revenue between US$44.6 billion and US$45.8 billion, with a gross margin range of 65% to 67% and an operating margin between 56% and 58% [6].
Despite the record results, some investors remain cautious. SPI Asset Management’s Stephen Innes said, "Strong earnings and healthy demand can keep a trade alive, but they cannot prevent a correction when everyone already owns it" [8].
TSMC reported the Q2 results and updated forecasts on July 16, 2026 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]. The company’s expanded US investments and raised spending plans reflect its bet on sustained AI growth. The next earnings update is expected following Q3 2026 results.
