A 21-year-old UiTM student, Fadhlan Fakhry Solana Mohd Fellimal, died from heat-related complications during the Komander Kesatria Endurance Challenge (KKEC) at UiTM's Jengka campus on September 4, 2026 [1, 2, 3, 4]. Fadhlan, a final-year diploma student representing UiTM Negeri Sembilan, reportedly had no underlying health conditions before the event [1, 2, 4]. He passed away at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital ICU in Temerloh around noon on September 5, 2026 [1, 2, 5, 4].

Eight other students suffered heat-related illnesses, including oxygen deficiency, and were hospitalized—three were treated at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital and six at Jengka Hospital [1, 2, 5, 3, 4]. Nine students in total were initially taken to hospital after experiencing breathing difficulties and loss of consciousness around 9:57 pm on September 4 during the event [1, 2, 5]. Among the hospitalized, one remains in the ICU recovering and is conscious and able to communicate, while others have been discharged [5].

The KKEC is an annual endurance event held from September 2 to 8 at UiTM’s Pahang branch in Jengka. It tests students’ physical strength, tactical skills, agility, and teamwork. This year, 521 students participated, all of whom underwent health screenings before and during the challenge. Several participants were withdrawn after failing final health checks [1, 5, 3, 4].

Following the incident, UiTM has canceled all remaining outdoor KKEC activities scheduled from September 6 onward as a health and safety precaution [1, 2, 3, 4]. Maran district police chief Superintendent Wong Kim Wai said the police are awaiting post-mortem and laboratory results to determine the exact cause of Fadhlan’s death. “Further updates will be provided after receiving Fadhlan Fakhry’s post-mortem report,” he said [1, 3].

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir instructed UiTM to prepare a comprehensive report on the incident. He said, “We take every matter involving students who participate in programmes such as this seriously. I have asked UiTM to prepare a comprehensive report so that we can examine the causes and determine what further action needs to be taken” [2].

UiTM and Maran police have expressed condolences and are providing support to Fadhlan’s family [1, 3, 4]. The investigation and report submission are expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the tragedy and the hospitalizations.
