A Taiwanese YouTuber was assaulted and robbed at a condominium in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, losing about RM35,000 mostly in foreign currency, police said [1, 2, 3]. The robbers impersonated police officers to carry out the attack [1, 2, 3].
Police arrested 12 Malaysians, including eight men and four women aged 26 to 48, in raids starting August 2 across Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Kuala Lumpur [1, 2, 3, 4]. The victim suffered injuries during the assault and lost cash estimated at RM35,000 (about NT$270,000 to NT$280,000 or S$10,949) [1, 2, 3, 4]. Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the robbery was triggered after suspects learned the victim was carrying a large amount of foreign currency, which "served as the key trigger for the crime" and "was believed to have been the initial trigger" [1, 2, 3].
Seven suspects were released on police bail on August 7 after statements were recorded, while five remain remanded until August 13 to assist in ongoing investigations [1, 2, 4, 5]. Police are still searching for one additional suspect at large [1, 2, 3, 4]. The case is being investigated under Sections 170 (impersonating a public servant) and 395 (gang robbery) of the Malaysian Penal Code [1, 2, 4].
