A 37-year-old housewife from Kuala Terengganu lost RM95,715 after falling victim to an online job scam that began on May 8, 2026, authorities said [1, 2].

The victim initially responded to a Facebook job advertisement and began communication with scammers via WhatsApp the same day [1, 2]. She was paid a small commission of RM85 after completing two simple tasks. "The victim was asked to join a group on the Telegram application to add friends and was given several tasks, for which payment was also provided. For the first and second tasks, the victim received a return of RM85," said Kuala Terengganu police chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor [2].

Following instructions, the woman joined a Telegram group where she was required to perform further tasks and recruit others to the scheme. Between May 8 and May 18, she was directed to send money to seven different bank accounts, transferring nearly RM100,000 in total using savings shared with her husband [1, 2]. "In this case, the victim was also contacted by another individual before she realised that she had fallen victim to an online job scam syndicate. The financial source used was the victim's personal savings together with her husband's savings," Azli stated [2].

Despite the multiple payments, the victim only received the initial RM85 as actual payment and received no further commission [1, 2].

The victim reported the scam to the Kuala Terengganu Police Station on June 11 at 6:02 pm. The case is under investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating [1, 2].

Malaysian media reported the case publicly on June 12. Police continue their investigation into the online syndicate responsible for the fraud [1].
