Bersatu expressed confidence on June 10, 2026, that it will retain the Endau state seat in the upcoming Johor election despite Alwiyah Talib quitting the party to rejoin Umno earlier this month [1, 2].
Alwiyah Talib resigned from Bersatu and returned to Umno on June 4, ending her eight-year stint with Bersatu [1, 2]. She first won the Endau seat as an Umno candidate in the 2018 general election before defecting to Bersatu within the same year [1, 2]. In the 2022 Johor state election, she successfully defended Endau on a Perikatan Nasional ticket [1, 2].
During a tour of Johor constituencies on June 10, Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali reaffirmed the party’s strong grassroots support in the Mersing parliamentary area, which includes the Endau seat. "We have gone through various tests in Mersing, but Mersing remains a Bersatu stronghold," he said [1]. He urged party leaders and grassroots machinery in Mersing to intensify efforts to defend all seats under the constituency [1, 2].
Azmin also raised concerns about unresolved issues faced by second-generation Felda settlers in Sedili and Johor Lama. More than 4,000 settler families are unable to occupy completed housing due to delayed water and electricity connections, despite ongoing loan repayments [1].
Alwiyah Talib stated her decision to leave Bersatu and rejoin Umno was made independently without outside influence [2].
Bersatu’s next step will be the statewide Johor election, where it aims to defend all contested seats, including Endau, amid the shifting political alignments seen in the region [1, 2].
