Five men between 21 and 28 years old were arrested in Cameron Highlands, Pahang, on May 30, 2026, for allegedly committing robberies using fake Grindr dating profiles in Johor Bahru, Malaysia [1, 2, 3]. From January to May 2026, at least nine victims aged 25 to 40 were targeted and robbed in the Taman Pelangi and Kampung Melayu Majidee areas [1, 2, 3].
According to Johor police chief Ab Rahaman Arsad, the suspects lured victims to meetups, then brought them into cars where accomplices posing as security guards confronted them. "The victims were threatened and assaulted before their personal belongings, including debit and credit cards, jewellery and cash, were taken from them," he said [1]. Victims were coerced into revealing their bank card PINs, which the suspects used to withdraw money to purchase gold items [1, 2, 3].
Police recorded nine separate reports and estimated total losses at RM315,220 (SGD 99,830) [1, 2, 3]. During the arrests, officers seized five mobile phones, a car, receipts for gold purchases, five debit cards, and various gold jewellery pieces [1, 2, 3].
All suspects have prior records for robbery and drug-related offenses, but their urine tests were negative [1, 2, 3]. Investigation papers were submitted to the Johor prosecution office. Three of the five are expected to face charges at the Johor Baru Sessions Court on June 15, 2026, the police chief said [1].
Police are also seeking another local man to assist with ongoing investigations [1, 2, 3].
