The Malaysian Immigration Department launched an investigation after images and video surfaced of a vehicle displaying its logo without authorization. The vehicle, driven by a foreign national, appeared in a viral video recorded in April 2025 but only uploaded on August 7, 2026, by the man’s Indonesian wife via WhatsApp status [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6].
Authorities confirmed the vehicle was neither owned by nor an official asset of the department. The Toyota Hilux with registration VLH8773 was traced to a car wash on Jalan Kuching, Kuala Lumpur [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6].
During a special operation on August 9, 2026 at PV3 Platinum Hill Condominium in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, a Pakistani man believed to be the driver in the video was detained at 4:30 pm. An Indonesian woman found at the premises was also detained for overstaying [2, 3, 5].
Investigators seized two Indonesian passports believed to belong to other individuals from the Pakistani man. The vehicle owner, another Pakistani national, and eight foreign workers employed at the car wash—including four Bangladeshis, three Pakistanis, and one Indian—were detained [2, 3, 5].
The vehicle owner admitted to installing the Immigration Department’s logo and warning lights for personal use without official permission and claimed ignorance of the law. He stated these had been removed before the video went viral [2, 3, 5].
Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said, “The department takes the misuse of its logo seriously as it could cause confusion and create a false impression among the public. Appropriate action will be taken under existing laws if any violation is found” [1]. He added the department “would not compromise on any misuse of its logo or identity that could mislead the public or undermine its image and integrity” [4].
All detainees and the vehicle were taken to Immigration offices for further investigation [2, 3, 5]. Authorities have emphasized ongoing efforts to identify any legal breaches and proceed accordingly.
