The Road Transport Department (JPJ) announced on August 13 a partnership with local animation company Monsta Studios to produce creative digital content targeting children and Gen Z to promote road safety awareness [1, 2, 3].
Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook stressed the importance of shifting communication from traditional media like billboards and newspapers to digital and social media platforms favored by younger audiences. He said, "Today, everyone depends on smartphones. The explosion of information we see today revolves around social media and creative digital content... If something is more than one minute, people do not watch it. At best, 30 seconds or 20 seconds. Everything is instant now." [1]
Loke highlighted the goal to instill road safety consciousness early, stating, "Our main target is children, so that road safety awareness can be instilled from their school years and strengthened as they grow into adulthood." He added that messages must be delivered in a creative, easy-to-understand, and memorable way through mediums close to young people [2, 3].
The partnership combines JPJ's expertise with Monsta Studios' strengths in animation and digital communication. Monsta Studios, known for franchises such as BoBoiBoy, Mechamato, and Papa Zola, will leverage its popular titles to engage the youth effectively [3]. The campaign also aims for children to influence their parents' driving behaviours by spreading awareness at home [2, 3].
At the event held during the Transport Ministry’s monthly assembly and National Month launch on August 13, Loke expressed hope the collaboration would become a catalyst for more public sector and creative industry partnerships to convey public interest messages effectively [3].
Separately, JPJ is integrating a new online driver health screening system linked to MySikap, enhancing transparency in medical reports required for license renewal [2]. The Home Ministry plans to present improvements to airport screening procedures and equipment to the Cabinet around August 20 [2].
