The 2026 Malaysia Day celebration will be held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) in Sarawak, officials confirmed after the first preparatory meeting held on August 3 [1, 2, 3]. Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, co-chairman of the Malaysia Day celebrations, said the venue was chosen for its suitability in terms of space.
Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil noted the BCCK's size is almost identical to the PICCA Convention Centre in Butterworth, which hosted last year's Malaysia Day event. "We have assessed the venue and it is suitable in terms of space," he said [2]. Preparations are progressing smoothly toward the celebration.
The next preparatory meeting is scheduled for August 24 to discuss further arrangements for the event [1, 2, 3]. Meanwhile, ahead of National Day on August 31, Prasarana Malaysia Bhd will provide 24-hour public transport service in Putrajaya to facilitate travel to and from the celebrations [1, 2, 3]. Fahmi added that several other infrastructure improvements are planned to better accommodate visitors, saying, "We hope this will help more people not only to come to Putrajaya, but also to head home after the National Day event concludes" [1].
The BCCK's selection reflects efforts to secure a venue with adequate capacity for Malaysia Day, following last year's successful use of a similarly sized site. The August 24 meeting will likely finalize logistical details, while the National Day event on August 31 will see upgraded transit services supporting large crowds.
