Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, arrived in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei, on August 21 at 6:10 pm for a two-day working visit to attend the 27th Annual Leaders’ Consultation (ALC-27) between Malaysia and Brunei [1, 2, 3].
They were greeted upon arrival at Brunei International Airport by Brunei's Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Abdul Mateen Bolkiah. Malaysian officials present included Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Foreign Ministry secretary-general Tan Sri Amran Mohamed Zin, and Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei Datuk Mohd Aini Atan [1, 2, 3].
The ALC-27 is the highest-level bilateral mechanism between the two countries. It provides a platform to review bilateral cooperation and discuss regional and international matters of mutual interest [1, 2, 3].
In 2025, the total trade between Malaysia and Brunei was RM5.86 billion (US$1.37 billion), consisting of Malaysian exports to Brunei worth RM4.20 billion (US$0.98 billion) and imports from Brunei totaling RM1.66 billion (US$0.39 billion) [1, 2, 3]. For the first half of 2026, trade reached RM2.38 billion (US$600 million) [1, 2, 3].
On August 22, Anwar is scheduled to have an audience and private meeting with Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah at the Nurul Iman Palace. They are expected to witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on disaster management cooperation [1, 2, 3].
