Malaysia's Social Security Organisation (Socso) launched the Lindung 24 scheme on June 1, 2026, extending social security protection to over nine million contributors under the Employees' Social Security Act beyond workplace hours and incidents, including during rest days and public holidays [1, 2, 3].

The scheme covers employees against non-workplace accidents without requiring fresh registration for existing formal-sector workers. Newly employed workers from June 1 onwards must be registered by their employers through existing Perkeso procedures, as stated by Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, who said, "Those employed and reporting for duty from today (June 1) onwards must be registered by their employers in accordance with existing procedures through the Perkeso system" [1].

Funding for Lindung 24 comes entirely from employees, capped at a monthly salary ceiling of RM6,000. Contributions are set at 0.75% of monthly wages. Employers are responsible for deducting these contributions from workers' salaries and remitting payments to Socso [1, 2, 3].

Socso offers eight benefits under the scheme, ranging from medical benefits and temporary or permanent disablement compensation to dependants' benefits and funeral expenses. It further includes constant attendance allowances, physical and vocational rehabilitation, Return To Work (RTW) programs, and education benefits aimed at supporting beneficiaries' rehabilitation and future livelihoods. The Human Resources Minister highlighted these offerings, saying, "The scheme also covers constant attendance allowance, funeral benefits, physical rehabilitation, vocational rehabilitation and Return To Work (RTW) programmes, as well as education benefits to support beneficiaries' future" [2].

Continuous contribution payments are required to maintain uninterrupted social security coverage and ensure worker compliance [1, 2, 3].

The Lindung 24 scheme aligns with International Labour Organisation recommendations and international best practices for social security expansion [1, 2, 3]. Applications for benefits can be made online via the Lindung Faedah portal or at any Perkeso office [1, 2, 3].

Datuk Seri Ramanan summarized the scheme’s significance, saying, "Socso's latest initiative has made Malaysia's social protection framework more comprehensive, dynamic and responsive to current labour market realities, while supporting the Malaysia Madani agenda in safeguarding workers' welfare and wellbeing" [1].
