The private sector in Malaysia must expand second-career opportunities for military veterans to strengthen their welfare and empowerment, officials said on August 9 at the closing ceremony of the MyHeroes Golf Championship Cup 2026 (MYGCC 2026) held in conjunction with the Kempen Tabung Pahlawan (Warriors Fund Campaign) [1, 2, 3].
The MYGCC 2026 was organized by the Royal Malaysian Navy Veterans’ Association (PVTLDM) as a fundraising event to support veterans’ welfare programs. The tournament raised RM220,000 from eight private companies to help thousands of veterans and their dependants receive livelihood assistance, medical care, and education for veterans’ children [1, 2, 3].
Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, patron of Kempen Tabung Pahlawan, urged more parties to contribute to the fund and veteran associations under the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) Veterans’ Affairs Department (JHEV). She said, "I call on more parties to come forward and contribute to the Kempen Tabung Pahlawan, as well as veteran associations under the MAF Veterans’ Affairs Department (JHEV). Every sen contributed will go directly towards the welfare and wellbeing of our national heroes" [1].
Dr Wan Azizah highlighted that the funds collected are used to support thousands of veterans and their families with livelihood assistance, medical care, and educational support for their children [2]. She emphasized the ethic of hard work and readiness to sacrifice upheld by the Royal Malaysian Navy and MAF, noting, "This achievement is proof of the spirit of togetherness and the ethic of hard work without complacency, reflecting the principle of readiness to sacrifice that is upheld by every member of the Royal Malaysian Navy and the MAF" [3].
Navy chief Admiral Tan Sri Dr Zulhelmy Ithnain and PVTLDM president Commander (Rtd) Khairil Hariss Khairuddin, who also served as MYGCC 2026 programme director, attended the event [1, 2, 3].
The government, through the MAF and JHEV, reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding veterans’ welfare and advancing their empowerment agenda [1, 2, 3]. The fundraising efforts such as MYGCC 2026 and Kempen Tabung Pahlawan continue to show positive growth, reflecting public and corporate concern for the welfare of military veterans [1, 2, 3].
