Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim praised the Communications Ministry for its clear communication of the Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) subsidy initiative during the ministry’s monthly assembly on June 8, 2026, calling it a benchmark for government policy communication [1, 2].
The Budi95 programme offers RON95 petrol at a subsidised price of RM1.99 per litre to ease fuel costs for Malaysians [1, 2]. Anwar said the ministry’s effective explanation has greatly improved public understanding and reduced confusion about how the subsidy works [1, 2].
“I believe this ministry's greatest success is in relation to Budi95. When a clearer explanation is provided, it does not create many problems,” Anwar said, highlighting the importance of communication clarity to public acceptance [1].
While a small number of parties still voiced concerns about rising fuel prices despite the subsidy, overall acceptance of the initiative has improved thanks to the ministry’s efforts [1, 2]. At the June assembly, Anwar congratulated Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah, and their team for their dedication during the rollout [1, 2].
Deputy Communications Minister Datuk Teo Nie Ching (张念群) and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar (丹斯里山苏阿兹里) were also present at the event [1, 2].
The ministry will continue its engagement and communication efforts as the Budi95 programme progresses to maintain public clarity and support [1, 2].
