Women’s singles national No. 1 K. Letshanaa upset Denmark’s world No. 20 Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt 21-14, 19-21, 21-13. She credited her win to "outstanding defence in last night’s match," and will face Japan’s world No. 3 Akane Yamaguchi next, who beat her previously at the Uber Cup in April [5, 6, 7].

Mixed doubles saw mixed results. Jimmy Wong and Cheng Su Yin lost in the first round to China’s world No. 1 Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping 19-21, 18-21 [1, 2].
