Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching announced the identification of 1,000 sites for the first phase of Jendela Phase Two implementation in 2026 at a press conference today after officiating the Japen@Petronas Jalur Gemilang Expression Programme [1, 2, 3].
The sites include locations in Sabah and Sarawak and are part of a broader plan covering 2,700 sites nationwide under Jendela Phase Two. “There are 2,700 sites under the implementation of Jendela Phase Two, but for the first phase (of Phase Two) this year, 1,000 sites have been identified, and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has issued tenders for implementation at the sites,” Teo said [3].
Jendela is a government initiative led by MCMC to enhance digital infrastructure and improve internet coverage across Malaysia [1, 3]. The tenders issued by MCMC mark the start of physical development work at the selected sites.
In conjunction with the upcoming National Day celebrations, various public activities will be held under the RIUH Merdeka programme. To facilitate access, free public transport including shuttle buses running every 5 minutes from MRT Putrajaya Sentral and every 10 minutes from Putrajaya International Convention Centre will be available on National Day [1, 2, 3].
Teo also distributed free Jalur Gemilang-shaped magnets to the public to enliven National Month, a joint effort by the Communications Ministry, Japen (Information Department), and Petronas available at select petrol stations [1, 3].
Preparations for the 2026 National Day parade are ongoing and expected to draw more than 100,000 attendees [2]. Teo urged the public to use the free public transport provided because “many roads will be closed” on National Day, saying, “Therefore, the public are encouraged to use public transport as many roads will be closed.” [3, 2]
Implementation work at the first 1,000 sites will continue throughout this year as part of the larger 2,700-site effort planned under Jendela Phase Two [1, 2, 3].
