Singapore's latest Certificate of Entitlement (COE) bidding exercise on August 19 saw premiums increase across most categories, with only commercial vehicles recording a decline, the Land Transport Authority reported [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].
Category A COE premiums rose 3.7% to S$128,501, marking the first increase after two consecutive declines [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. Ng Choon Wee, commercial director of Komoco Motors, said, "The Category A COE premium had increased beyond expectations" [4]. There were 1,600 bids for 1,197 COEs in Category A, leaving 403 unsuccessful applicants compared to 296 in the previous exercise, which had 1,522 bids for 1,226 COEs [4].
Category B premiums edged higher by 0.8% to S$131,001 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. The narrowing price gap to about S$2,500 between Categories A and B is expected to boost demand for Category B COEs if premiums stay close [4].
Category C, for commercial vehicles, bucked the upward trend with a 1.7% drop in premiums to S$90,002 from S$91,545 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].
Motorcycle COE premiums (Category D) increased 7.6% to S$11,301, marking the fourth straight exercise with five-digit premiums and the first time since October 2023 that the price crossed S$11,000 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].
The Open category (Category E) rose 3.1% to S$135,000 from S$131,000 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].
A total of 4,515 bids were received for 3,205 available COEs during this exercise. The quota for the August to October 2026 period was slightly increased by 0.2% to 19,085 from 19,052 in the previous quarter [1].
