Singapore and India held the fourth India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable on August 20, 2026, in Singapore to discuss and enhance bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors [1, 2, 3, 4]. During the meeting, the two governments signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) on food safety and maritime heritage, strengthening ties in trade and culture [1, 2, 3, 4].
Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority and India’s Telecom Regulatory Authority agreed to deepen collaboration in telecommunications, focusing on spectrum management and consumer protection [1]. Concurrently, the Singapore Food Agency and India’s Food Safety and Standards Authority agreed to bolster technical cooperation. Key areas include labelling, product recalls, emergency notifications, and import procedures aimed at ensuring safer food trade [1, 4].
The countries also agreed to support safe and resilient agri-food trade, emphasizing supply chain resilience for vital food products such as rice. Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong remarked, "Past years saw cooperation during COVID-19 crises to ensure food supply chain continuity; now we explore strengthening supply resilience especially for key staples such as rice" [1, 4].
Semiconductor and advanced manufacturing industries were another focus. Since a 2024 MOU, semiconductor manufacturers have been investing in India, and the two sides discussed ways to deepen collaboration in this strategic sector [2, 3]. Alongside business topics, the maritime heritage MOU aims to promote cultural links between the two nations [2, 3, 4].
Additional discussions covered sustainable development, digitalisation, skills development, healthcare, medicine, and connectivity [2, 3]. Singapore is exploring new food supply chain resilience arrangements with India, modelled after frameworks with Australia and New Zealand, and studying cooperation proposals submitted to India [4]. Potential cooperation may include agricultural research for better crop yields, resilient seed development, and food processing investments such as those by Singapore’s SATS Kitchens in India [4].
From August 17 to 23, a food roadshow in Singapore featured 18 Indian exporters showcasing over 160 food products, connecting them with Singapore distributors and consumers [4].
India’s delegation was led by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, and Minister of State Jitin Prasada. Singapore’s delegation was led by Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong and included Ministers K Shanmugam, Vivian Balakrishnan, Josephine Teo, and Jeffrey Siow. The Indian delegation also met Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on August 20 [1, 2, 3, 4].
The two countries elevated their partnership to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in September 2024 and have held four ministerial roundtables since 2022 [1, 2, 3].
