Nur Amira Shahirah Azmi, 21, a former training officer at a social service agency, was jailed for 14 weeks on August 7 after pleading guilty to assaulting a vulnerable woman in July 2026 [1, 2, 3, 4].
The victim, diagnosed with an intellectual disability in 2015, is protected under Section 74 of the Penal Code as a vulnerable person [1, 2, 3, 4]. The assault took place on August 30, 2024, inside the social service agency premises when the victim and a male client were waiting for lunch [1, 2, 3, 4].
The victim had been instructed not to assist the male client to encourage his independence. When it was their turn to get lunch, the victim reached out her hand to guide the male client toward a door but was reminded by another officer not to help him [1, 2, 3, 4].
Nur Amira overheard and became angry that the victim did not follow instructions. She shoved the victim on her right shoulder, causing the victim to fall and hit a foam structure behind her [1, 2, 3, 4]. The victim cried on the floor as Nur Amira scolded her for about 30 seconds [4].
Although Nur Amira initially saw no obvious injury after rolling up the victim’s trousers to check, the victim later showed an inability to stand or walk without help. She was taken to hospital that evening where doctors diagnosed a left knee dislocation and multiple fractures [1, 2, 3, 4].
The victim was prescribed a hinged knee brace for 6 weeks to restore motion and weight-bearing ability [1, 2, 3]. At her most recent medical review before sentencing, she had not regained full range of motion, indicating possible lasting effects. Deputy Public Prosecutor Cheryl Tan said "there could be potentially lasting effects from the injury, as the victim had not regained her full range of motion at her most recent medical review." [1]
