Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien achieved a historic 1-2-3 finish in the Group 1 Qatar Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly on May 31, 2026, with Constitution River, Hawk Mountain, and Montreal taking the top three places [1, 2]. The race carried a purse of €1.5 million (S$2.23 million) [1, 2].

Constitution River won the 2,100-meter race by three-quarters of a length over stablemate Hawk Mountain, with Montreal finishing third [1, 2]. The winner overcame the challenge of starting from stall 15, a wide draw considered difficult in this race since the distance was shortened to 2,100 meters in 2005 [1, 2]. Constitution River entered the race as an $11 outsider [1, 2].

Jockey Ryan Moore rode Constitution River, positioning the horse early in isolation before gradually joining his stablemates Hawk Mountain, ridden by Christophe Soumillon, and Montreal, ridden by Wayne Lordan [1, 2]. Montreal set a strong pace, kicking clear with 1,200 meters to go, while Hawk Mountain increased speed on the home turn. Constitution River got a clear path inside the last 400 meters to seal the win [1, 2].

Constitution River had previously won the Listed Dee Stakes over the same distance by seven lengths on May 7, 2026, at Chester [1, 2]. O'Brien said of Montreal, "Wayne’s horse ran a lovely race in the trial and we knew he would improve a lot, which he did. Wayne rode him forward." He also praised Hawk Mountain, noting, "Christophe’s horse ran well in the trial as well and we felt he had come forward too." O’Brien described Constitution River’s preparation, saying, "Ryan’s horse went to Chester, had a lovely run there, and we had the choice of going to either Derby" [1].

This was not O’Brien’s first 1-2-3 finish at Chantilly. He achieved the feat previously in the 2016 Group 1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe with Found, Highland Reel, and Order Of St George [1, 2]. He also won the French Derby with Camille Pissarro in 2025 and St Mark’s Basilica in 2021 [1, 2].

O’Brien reflected on the achievement: "It is unbelievable. A lot of people have put a lot of hard work into this horse. We are delighted for everyone at Coolmore and Ballydoyle" [1].
