Lottie Woad surged ahead with a 7-under 64 in the second round of the Evian Championship on August 8, moving to 11-under par and taking a one-stroke lead at the Evian Resort Golf Club in France [1, 2, 3]. Woad tallied eight birdies and one bogey during her round to overtake the leaderboard. "I've got obviously nice memories from last year here and I like the golf course, so I think that definitely helps," Woad said. "I think I've just got slightly better in all areas... mentally been in these positions a bit more so I think I'm a little calmer under pressure" [1]. She added, "I just kept on giving myself chances... on the back nine seemed to make most things" [2].
Aki Iwai of Japan, the first-round leader at 10-under par, carded a 69 in the second round to sit one stroke back at 10-under [1, 2, 3]. Meanwhile, Mao Saigo from Japan and South Korea's Haeran Ryu are tied for third place at 8-under par after shooting 68s on Friday [1, 2, 3]. A four-way tie for fifth includes England's Charley Hull and Thailand's Jeeno Thitikul at 6-under par. Thitikul scored an eagle on the par-5 seventh hole and added five birdies en route to a 64. She described the eagle, "I wanted to hit it on the fairway because I know if I hit on the fairway I might have a chance to go two to the green... luckily [my putt] went in" [2, 3].
World number one Nelly Korda missed the cut after finishing the second round at 1-over par, ending her streak of 34 consecutive cuts made on the LPGA Tour dating back to the 2024 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship [1, 2, 3]. On the same day, Scottie Scheffler’s streak of 78 straight made cuts on the men’s PGA Tour also ended [1, 2, 3].
The Evian Championship continues with the third round scheduled for August 9, where Woad will defend her one-shot lead.
