Trump Media and Technology Group unveiled the Truth API on August 1, 2026. The subscription service sells real-time early access to posts from Truth Social accounts, including former President Trump's @realDonaldTrump account, which has 13 million followers as of that date [1, 2, 3, 4].
The Truth API charges up to $100,000 per month for subscribers wishing to receive these early posts, which often include major policy announcements on issues such as tariffs and the Iran conflict that have proven to move financial markets [1, 3, 4]. Kevin McGurn, interim CEO of Trump Media, said the API "delivers a direct, licensed, real-time feed of the platform's most market-moving Truths while advancing our strategy to monetize proprietary assets through a high-margin, recurring revenue stream" [2].
Trump's family remains the largest shareholder in Trump Media, which owns and operates Truth Social [2]. The company’s shares climbed about 48% from their June 2026 all-time low below $7 per share to roughly $10.39 in the week before and after the API launch. This rally increased Trump’s net worth by an estimated $600 million to $6.5 billion [4].
Despite the stock rebound, Trump Media reported a $712 million loss in 2025 and earned only $3.7 million in advertising revenue that year [4].
The Truth API has drawn criticism from Democratic Senators Adam Schiff and Elizabeth Warren, who called on the Securities and Exchange Commission to investigate the service for potential market manipulation and insider trading risks. They said, "This appears to be an outrageous abuse of the President's office for his personal benefit that undermines everyday investors and the integrity of our markets, while enriching Wall Street and other wealthy insiders" [1]. Ethics experts warned the API blurs lines between Trump’s public office and private profit [3]. Irene Aldridge, head of Able Alpha Trading, said, "If this was the CEO [of] a public company, this would be jail time" due to selective advance disclosures [3]. Trump Media pushed back, accusing critics of mischaracterizing the API out of “ideological opposition to free markets or a failure to grasp the distinction between public and nonpublic information – or, quite possibly, both” [3].
The Truth API launched after the July 28 letter from Senators Schiff and Warren urging SEC scrutiny [1, 2]. Trump Media’s stock performance and subscription revenue impact will be closely watched in the coming months.
