Bethesda Softworks confirmed official remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas for modern platforms, bringing the classic RPGs back to current systems [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8]. Fallout 3 originally launched in 2008 for PS3, PC, and Xbox 360, with Fallout: New Vegas released two years later in 2010 [1].

Fallout 5 is currently in preproduction, described as Bethesda's "long-range destination" and a major future priority. Todd Howard emphasized, "Fallout is one of our biggest priorities today. Fallout 5 remains our long-range destination, and we have multiple Fallout projects in active development right now" [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8]. Bethesda confirmed it is developing Fallout 5 and The Elder Scrolls VI on the Creation Engine 3, a shared technology platform built after Starfield's 2023 launch [4, 6].

Bethesda also announced a new Fallout game being developed in collaboration with Obsidian Entertainment, known for Fallout: New Vegas. This project is separate from Fallout 5. Bethesda stated, "The wasteland continues to expand as we team up once again with our longtime friends at Obsidian Entertainment. We're happy to confirm they're working with us on a new Fallout project" [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8]. This comes after Obsidian faced layoffs and cancellation of their Avowed sequel [2, 5, 7].

Fallout 76 will receive a major expansion titled Raven Rock in 2027. This expansion acts as a prequel story to Fallout 3, continuing to build out the Fallout online world, which maintains an active player base and has seen nearly 70 free updates [1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8].

Todd Howard acknowledged the challenge of balancing information sharing to fans: "We do realize we need to find a way to say a bit more so that our fans understand what we're doing and why, while also protecting that moment when you really see the game and you press play" [8].

While Fallout projects progress, Bethesda's main development focus remains The Elder Scrolls VI, with the majority of the team assigned there [3, 4, 6, 8]. Meanwhile, Starfield continues to thrive with over 17 million players and nearly a billion hours logged, with plans for new content next year [3, 4, 6, 8].

Additional Fallout content includes upcoming new seasons for Fallout Shelter, as well as an unscripted TV series based on the mobile game in development with Amazon and Kilter Films [5, 8]. Bethesda will not hold a traditional Fallout Day broadcast in 2026 but announced a special 30th anniversary live event for Fallout in Washington, D.C., on October 23, 2027 [1, 4].
