Apple announced on August 21-22 that it is cutting more than 200 jobs from its Siri digital assistant team, Vision Pro headset teams, and the Intelligent Systems Experience software group, which focuses on AI features [1, 2, 3, 4].

Apple is shifting its focus toward newer AI projects and an updated AI-driven version of Siri. The company is also prioritizing development of smart glasses products rather than immersive video experiences or gaming on the Vision Pro headset [1, 2, 3, 4]. A spokesperson said, “While we will create new roles as part of this change, it will also impact a limited number of existing roles. We are grateful to these team members for their contributions, and we are committed to supporting them throughout their transition, including opportunities to apply for other roles at Apple.” [1]

The Vision Pro headset, launched in February 2024 in the U.S. at $3,499, saw a price increase to $3,699 in June 2026 [4]. Despite Apple’s push, the device has struggled with low adoption due to its high cost and cumbersome user experience [3, 4]. Apple still plans to continue developing Vision Pro and its VisionOS platform, aiming for a successor model no earlier than 2028 [3, 4].

The Siri team is restructuring to support the new AI-driven assistant, requiring different skills than previous versions [1, 3, 4]. The Intelligent Systems Experience team is being realigned to better coordinate AI development across Apple’s products [1, 4].

Apple said it is evolving its business to deliver better user experiences and that it will create new roles while reducing some existing positions [2, 3].
