X launched a built-in video editor and recorder on its iOS app on July 6, aiming to promote original content creation among users [1, 2, 3]. The new feature includes overlay captions in multiple languages with customizable styles and a green screen tool that allows creators to use photos from their camera roll or other X posts as backgrounds [1, 2, 3].

Nikita Bier, X's head of product, said many popular accounts repost videos stolen from others, sometimes years later. Bier noted that nearly half of video impressions on X come from recycled content. "One of our biggest priorities is to give creators the tools to create original content [and] reward those creators," Bier said [1, 2].

To discourage video theft and reposting, X is suspending 208 bots per minute and reducing payouts to accounts that aggregate recycled content [1, 2]. It also reallocated impressions away from programmatic reuploads to original creators starting in May 2026 [2]. Additionally, X rewards original content creators with faster account growth on the platform [2].

Earlier this year, X added features encouraging live video creation, including a video reaction tool and $1 million allocated to live streamer payouts in June 2026 [3]. Bier emphasized the company's goal to bring "net new content on the app" [3].

The built-in video editor is currently available only on X's iOS app, with plans to update the features and potentially expand to Android users in the coming weeks [1, 3]. Bier said more video editor updates are expected soon as part of their continued efforts to improve creator tools [1].
