Blood Dungeon is a new 2D survival platformer developed by Messhof, fusing gameplay mechanics from Vampire Survivors and Spelunky into a roguelite experience. The game features automatic weapon firing similar to Vampire Survivors but takes place within a 2D maze where players can run, jump, climb walls, and use ceilings to evade enemies and hazards [1, 2].

Players face enemies approaching from all sides. Touching an enemy reduces the player’s health by depleting hearts, and death ends the run. Players collect blood or XP dropped by defeated enemies to level up. Leveling up lets players pick upgrades and passive charms, each with rarity labels that influence survivability [1, 2].

The art style of Blood Dungeon is intentionally quirky and chunky, resembling rough MS Paint visuals. Mark Essen, co-founder of Messhof, said, "It's really about running and jumping," highlighting the importance of platforming movement as players navigate the maze and avoid damage [1]. Compared to typical Vampire Survivors clones, Blood Dungeon demands more thoughtful positioning and platforming skills to survive [2].

A free demo with all content unlocked is available on Steam. Players at the Summer Games Fest’s Play Days in June 2026 also got access to a playable demo [1]. Anecdotes from players include one who used a teleport ability that randomly relocated the character, which led to a death by drowning in a hidden underwater section [1].

The free demo remains available on Steam for players to try the full scope of Blood Dungeon’s roguelite platforming combat.
