Halo Studios, formerly known as 343 Industries, announced a full remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved called Halo: Campaign Evolved. The game is not merely a remaster but a complete rebuild using Unreal Engine 5 to deliver revamped visuals, enhanced sound, and updated voice performances [1, 2].

The remake introduces three new prologue missions titled Operation Meteorite. These missions add new environments, characters, and enemies set a year before the original story timeline, expanding the Halo universe [1, 2].

While maintaining the original art style rather than adopting the look of Halo 4 or 5, the game includes modern gameplay options such as sprinting and aiming. Sprinting is optional, allowing players to stay close to the original experience if they choose [1, 2].

The remake supports co-op play with two-player split-screen on consoles and up to four-player online co-op on all platforms, but it does not feature competitive multiplayer modes like deathmatch or capture the flag [1, 2].

Some weapons and enemies from later Halo titles appear in the new or added missions, including player-usable items like the sword, the Needler Rifle, and enemies such as the Brutes [2]. Unlike the 2011 Combat Evolved Anniversary remaster, this remake shares no original code or physics, representing a ground-up rebuild [2].

Halo: Campaign Evolved will launch on July 28, 2026, for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and for the first time on PlayStation 5 [1, 2]. Early access begins five days earlier on July 23 for buyers of the Premium or Collector’s Editions [1].
