Nintendo announced Nintendo Switch Sports Resort as a spiritual successor to Wii Sports Resort, set to release exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 22, 2026 [1, 2, 3]. The game was first unveiled during the Nintendo Direct event in June 2026 [1, 3].

The new title features 12 sports: archery, boxing, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, bowling, basketball, golf, thumb wrestling, skateboarding, power cruising, prop plane flying, and jump rope [1, 2, 3]. Some sports from Wii Sports Resort and the original Switch Sports—such as sword dueling, frisbee, cycling, canoeing, and soccer—will not be included [2, 3].

Players will be able to create Mii characters or Sportsmate avatars to represent themselves in-game [1]. The game requires upgraded Joy-Con 2 controllers and will not be compatible with the original Nintendo Switch hardware [3].

Physical editions of Switch Sports Resort are now available for preorder on Amazon, while the digital edition is priced at $49.99 and can be preordered from the Nintendo eShop [3].

Nintendo’s 2022 release, Nintendo Switch Sports, sold well but did not reach the lasting legacy of Wii Sports. IGN’s review noted, "Nintendo Switch Sports successfully recaptures the party game magic of Wii Sports, but quickly falls victim to a lack of depth that holds it back from achieving greatness" [2].

With physical and digital preorders open as of today, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is confirmed to launch on October 22, 2026, exclusively for the Switch 2 platform [1, 2, 3].
