Ubisoft's Vantage Studios is developing a new Far Cry game codenamed Kodiak. The title is described as a "really ambitious" open-world first-person shooter featuring player-driven stories and interactions [1, 2, 3]. Kodiak moved past concept and entered active development in early August 2026, according to Insider Gaming [1].
The studio behind Kodiak, Vantage Studios, was created with support from Tencent to work on major franchises including Far Cry [2]. Meanwhile, a previously in-development Far Cry project, codenamed Maverick, intended to be an extraction shooter, has been canceled. Some of Maverick’s ideas will be repurposed for Kodiak [1, 3].
Alongside Kodiak, another Far Cry game, codenamed Blackbird, is further along in development. It is expected to be the next mainline Far Cry title—likely Far Cry 7—and features a traditional single-player experience with multiplayer or co-op components [1, 2, 3]. Vantage co-CEO Charlie Guillemot called Blackbird "honestly impressive" [2].
Far Cry 6, released in 2021, remains the most recent mainline game in the franchise [1, 2, 3]. As of October 2026, five years will have passed since that release [2].
Fans of the series can also anticipate an upcoming Far Cry TV anthology series produced by Noah Hawley. The show will star Rob Morrow, Steve Buscemi, and Lizzy Caplan [1, 3].
