Ahmed al Ahmed, who disarmed a gunman during the December 14, 2025, mass shooting at Bondi Beach that killed 15 people, had assault and stalking charges against his father dropped by police on August 12, 2026 [1, 2, 3]. The 44-year-old was accused of common assault in March 2026 and intimidation in June 2026, both relating to incidents involving his father [1, 2].
The charges were withdrawn after Ahmed agreed to a 12-month apprehended domestic violence order protecting his father [1, 2, 3]. Ahmed denies all the allegations against him and said, "I am a free man and I hope for peace" [1]. His defence lawyer Mohamed Sakr called him “a heroic man” whose honesty and dignity should be upheld until the issues are resolved [2].
During the Bondi attack, Ahmed was shot multiple times but managed to disarm the perpetrator. He received more than AU$2.5 million in donations afterward and was honored with keys to the city of Canterbury-Bankstown and Waverley [1, 2]. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited Ahmed in hospital and called him “a true Australian hero and an inspiration to all” [1, 2, 3].
Ahmed also alleged some family members tried to extort money from him, leading to charges against two of his brothers in June 2026; they were granted conditional bail [1, 2].
The next step is the 12-month apprehended domestic violence order that Ahmed agreed to abide by, which remains in effect through August 2027 [1, 2, 3].
