Angel Reese set a new WNBA single-game rebounding record with 26 rebounds on Monday during the Atlanta Dream’s 78-71 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks in Los Angeles [1, 2, 3, 4]. She surpassed Chamique Holdsclaw’s previous single-game mark of 24 rebounds, set in May 2003 [1, 2, 3, 4].
Reese also broke the WNBA single-season rebounding record, finishing the night with 458 total rebounds, surpassing A’ja Wilson’s 2024 record of 451 rebounds [1, 2, 3, 4]. In addition, Reese recorded her 27th double-double of the season, scoring 11 points alongside her record rebounding effort [1, 2, 3, 4].
The win completed a perfect 4-0 West Coast road trip for Atlanta, who improved their season record to 25-13 and moved closer to playoff positioning [2, 4]. The loss eliminated the Sparks from playoff contention [2].
Reese averaged about 12.4 rebounds per game this season and has led the league in rebounding for her first two seasons and this season as well [1, 3, 4]. She is a three-time WNBA All-Star and holds rookie records along with the league’s longest streak of double-doubles (15 straight) [1, 3].
In Monday’s game, Reese shot 4 of 14 from the field after a perfect 9 of 9 shooting performance in the Dream’s last game in Los Angeles [1, 4]. Reese acknowledged her shooting struggles but said, "Last time I was here, I didn’t miss any shots. Tonight I couldn’t hit (anything), so I knew I was going to be able to get them on the rebounding side. I just want to be there for my team. Offensively, defensively, whatever it takes to win" [1].
Allisha Gray led the Dream with 20 points and praised Reese’s rebounding ability, saying, "That’s a talent. I’m just in awe watching her rebound" [1, 2, 3, 4]. For the Sparks, Nneka Ogwumike scored 27 points and grabbed 16 rebounds [2, 3].
Atlanta now looks ahead to their next game with momentum from their record-setting performances and a strong road trip behind them.
