Mia Bieniemy, 57, wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, was shot multiple times by their 27-year-old son Elijah Zion Bieniemy at their home in Ashburn, Virginia, on the evening of August 9. Police responded to the shooting report at 7:32 p.m. ET Sunday at the family home on Northpark Drive, Loudoun County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Leah Paul said [1].
Mia Bieniemy was initially hospitalized in intensive care but has since been released and is making progress, Chiefs coach Andy Reid said on August 12. "She's doing great. She's doing better and great from where she was. Out of the ICU unit, happy about that," Reid said. "She’s making progress, so we’re happy about that." Elijah Zion Bieniemy was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm during a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling. He remains held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center. A court hearing for motions is scheduled for August 13, with a preliminary hearing set for August 31 [2, 1, 3].
Eric Bieniemy, 56, left Chiefs training camp to be with his wife and has no set timetable for his return. Andy Reid said, "Eric's a big part of this. We love having him here, but it's important that he takes care of business and everybody knows that.
