Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign striker Liam Delap in a deal worth around £50 million, consisting of an initial £45 million plus £5 million in add-ons [1, 2, 3, 4].
Delap, 23, joined Chelsea from Ipswich Town last summer for a fee of £30 million. He scored only one Premier League goal for Chelsea last season due to injuries [1, 2, 3, 5, 4]. He has recently been training apart from Chelsea’s first team and was omitted from their squad for the Premier League match against Fulham on Monday, 24 August [1, 6, 5, 4].
The transfer is expected to be completed this week as Delap undergoes a medical and prepares to sign a long-term contract with Nottingham Forest [2, 4]. His arrival will provide competition for Forest’s current strikers Chris Wood and Igor Jesus [1, 2].
Forest manager Oliver Glasner has expressed confidence the club will secure two more signings before the transfer window closes on 1 September. "The club is working very hard to get these deals done. I’m very confident that we will get in two more high-quality players," Glasner said [6, 5, 4].
This summer, Forest have already signed defender Ousmane Diomande for £34 million, midfielder Xaver Schlager, and goalkeeper Steve Benda [1, 2, 6]. They have also sold midfielder Elliot Anderson to Manchester City for a club-record £116 million and striker Taiwo Awoniyi to Coventry City for £9 million [1, 2].
Chelsea currently have 39 senior players and are seeking to sanction multiple sales and loans before the transfer deadline, having brought in two strikers, Emmanuel Emegha and Danny Welbeck, this summer [1, 2, 3].
