Raul Fernandez led from the opening lap to win the British MotoGP at Silverstone on August 9, securing his second career MotoGP victory and his first since the 2025 Australian Grand Prix [1, 2, 3]. Jorge Martin started the race on pole but suffered a technical problem at Turn One that dropped him from first to fourth early on. He recovered well to finish second, extending his championship lead to 31 points with a total of 240 points after the race [1, 2, 3]. Martin had won the Saturday sprint race, setting a strong weekend pace [1, 2]. He said, "The results here are a big boost of confidence for me and the team. It seems like we found a bit of direction to get the momentum on our side now. The race was fantastic. I made a small mistake at the start, but I am glad I was able to fight back." [2]
Marco Bezzecchi finished third at Silverstone and moved into second place in the championship standings with 209 points [1, 2, 3]. Ai Ogura crashed out of the race and dropped to third in the standings, now 37 points behind Martin [1, 2, 3]. Defending world champion Marc Marquez took seventh place in the race and remains fourth in the championship [1, 2, 3].
Six other riders crashed during the race including Alex Rins, Joan Mir, Enea Bastianini, Iker Lecuona, Cal Crutchlow, and Francesco Bagnaia [1, 3]. The race lasted 20 laps, with Fernandez maintaining a strong pace throughout [3].
In addition, MotoGP extended its contract with Silverstone, securing the British Grand Prix on the calendar through at least 2028 [1]. The next round of the 2026 MotoGP season will be the Aragon Grand Prix in Spain on August 30 [1].
